What is the cheapest way to get from San Antonio to Austin?

Flights are about $80 cheaper for me to go to San Antonio, so if I could get to Austin roundtrip for under $30 I'd probably do it.|||Besides walking, the cheapest method is driving.

The current lowest fuel price for regular gas in San Antonio is $2.06 per gallon. If your car gets an average 22 miles per gallon you would pay 14.83 for the round trip. Now one responder estimates the cost at $0.45 per mile and gives an estimate for driving at $72.00 for the round trip, meaning that there is about $57 in wear and tear on your car. I hope you drive better than a person who puts $57 in wear and tear on their car every 180 miles. Of course that includes the cost of insurance and other costs which your car would have sitting in a parking lot in San Antonio if you didn't take it.

If you don't have a car, Greyhound is $38-$44 round trip.

Amtrak from San Antonio to Austin is $30 round trip.

Flying from San Antonio to Austin is time consuming and difficult.|||Definitely car or bus. It will actually take longer to fly than drive because you have to check-in, luggage, go through security, then wait for take-off. Plus when you land you have to get your bags and everything. So whatever you do, the cheapest and fastest way is not by flying.'

Good luck!

lauren |||It is 80 miles. That's about 6 gallons of gas for the round trip. That'd be what, 15-16 dollars? Austin is 80 miles north of San Antonio. The flight actually takes longer than the drive.|||Greyhound Bus. $20. 90 minutes. The cost of gas is not the whole cost of travel by car. The real cost of auto travel is about 45 cents per mile. A car trip of 80 miles costs about $36.00.|||Check online deals in "Discount Travel Deals" Section at
