Which deparment has the least amount of applicants? I am desperate to get into UT Austin. I am a senior this year and I am planning on declaring an unpopular major for summer admission. Any advice?|||Well, the way it works for incoming freshmen at UT is you put down a first choice and second choice major. Since UT is huge, each college at the university individually reviews your application. Judging from your question, you just want in to the university, so the whole bit of choosing which major to put as your first choice is less important. (if you wanted to get into McComb's business school, or architecture, you need to put that first choice).
Here is the cool thing though, EVERYONE (regardless of what you apply for) is considered for an 'undeclared' natural science major. What I am trying to say is that if the college will admit you, they will admit you to the university regardless of what you apply for.
That said, you MIGHT (and this is a huge might) have a better chance if you suddenly got interested in a teaching degree, and applied for all of those programs. (the state of texas lowered their automatic admission requirements substantially for students going into education).
Finally, I would suggest meeting one on one with a representative at the college in Austin on more than one occasion. This will make you look like a more serious candidate (especially if you go the education route in).
More than likely, if you don't get the summer session you will get the CAP program (which isn't bad - my brother did that one)... you go to UT San Antonio for a year and transfer in to Austin the next, provided you meet some minimal grade requirements (you pass).
So, just meet with whichever college you are going into in Austin and life should be good. (hopefully)
Anyway, if you want any other advice or have any specific questions, just email me through yahoo. and good luck getting in - UT is an excellent school, and is A LOT of fun.
