What area of Austin TX can I live in without needing a car to get to grocery stores, and entertainment?

I currently need a car in the city I live in for everything I do. I really like Austin TX and I would love to be able to leave my car behind. So I would like to know what places in Austin would be close to living needs.|||While Austin does have public transportation and is one of the more bike-friendly communities in the country. Much of the town would still be difficult with no car.

The only place I would be comfortable without a car is downtown.

It can be very expensive but is as walkable as you can hope for.

If you are willing to live near the UT campus you can do pretty well without a car as well.

The only other option I might recommend is some of the Hyde Park area. It is north of the campus, and some areas are more walkable than others.

The only other thing I could recommend is using this apartment map website.

Then you could put the address into http://www.walkscore.com/ and see how highly a certain complex scores on walkability.

Good Luck.|||if you live closer to downtown or your job u really wont need a car, theres the bus|||It really depends on your budget, where your job will be(if u will need one),what you consider entertainment, will you utilize public transportation. I would initially say downtown, but it might be pretty expensive. Downtown Austin is full of entertainment, but there are also places beside Downtown. If you are willing to use public transportation you could find a place either North or South Austin also.
