How is the Amtrak service between Austin and Dallas?

I need to keep travelling between austin and dallas everyweek - usually monday to thursday.

Appreciate any feedback on this:

How is the Amtrak service between Austin %26amp; Dallas ?

Is it safe, how are the fellow passengers ?

Do you get to buy and eat any snacks/drinks ?

How comfortable are the seats for the long journey ?

Are there any power points where i can plug my laptop ?|||It is as slow as molasses.

You're far better off driving or even flying on Southwest Airlines. There are thirteen flights from Austin to Dallas on the weekday and it takes less than an hour.

The train trip is 6 hours and 40 minutes from Dallas to Austin. While it does run daily, it leaves Dallas at 12:20PM. Bring a book. Think War and Peace.

The trip is 5 hours and 5 minutes from Austin to Dallas and leaves at 9:30AM. Bring another book. Maybe only Cryptonomicon.

There is ONE train per day each way (runs from San Antonio to Chicago), so if you miss it you're hosed.

On the other hand, Austin to Dallas is a three hour, 195 mile car trip involving Interstate 35 (and Interstate 35E once you hit Hillsboro).

Car = twice as fast as train.|||Hope you have plenty of time, because it is not a quick trip.

It is not really meant to be used for commuters, since it is a 7 hr trip.

You are probably better off on Southwst Airlines.

|||Here are some tips:

1: u need a lot of time on ur hands.

2: Drinks and snacks u do pay for, but theres no tax.

3: The waitors are nice, the train is spacious, and no one on the train is mean
